EXCLUSIVE: The singer's lawyer said Friday that Ricky Martin does not have "some kind of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew" because his client is facing charges of domestic violence by a younger member of his family in Puerto Rico.
"Unfortunately, the person who made this claim suffers from a serious mental illness," Martin's attorney, Marty Singer, said in an interview with Today's Deadline. "Ricky Martin, of course, has never and never will have any sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew," added one Hollywood heavyweight opponent. "The idea isn't just wrong, it's sickening."
"We all hope this man gets the help he desperately needs," Singer said. "Most importantly, we hope to close this horrific case once the judge reviews the facts."
Martin has faced a temporary restraining order in recent weeks and, more recently, other allegations of abuse and more in the wake of an alleged seven-month intimate relationship with his 21-year-old nephew. A hearing is scheduled for July 21 in Puerto Rico regarding the claims. If a crime of domestic violence involving a parent is the crime Martin is accused of, a sentence of up to nearly 50 years can be considered if convicted.
The latest accusations come from an unincorporated US territory, and the attorney's response comes as Martin, the Grammy-winning star of The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, faces a devastating $3 million US lawsuit from his repeat boss. Drucker on unpaid commissions. Drucker sticks Damocles' sword in Martin to likely speed things up, as Drucker and his team, Venable LLP, claimed that the plaintiff rescued drug-addicted Levine singer La Vida Luca from "a potential end of employment in September of 2020".
Since Drucker filed his lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court on June 29, Martin and his attorneys at Lavely & Singer have remained silent on the matter.
Apple TV+ has been quiet about Martin's participation in the upcoming comedy series Mrs American Pie, in which he stars alongside Carol Burnett, Kristen Wiig, Josh Lucas, Allison Janney and Leslie Bibb. However, Martin is said to have actually filmed the series, which was written by Abby Sylvia and directed by Tate Taylor today in Los Angeles.
Earlier this month, when a Puerto Rican judge approved TRO's lawsuit against Martin, the singer's campaign criticized the domestic violence allegations as "false and completely fabricated." The injunction request was filed under Island Law 54, also known as the Domestic Abuse Response and Prevention Act.
