Fish and Wildlife officials are showing camera footage of a tiger being reunited with its mother in March. original post:

Collier County, Florida — Fish and Wildlife officials took to Facebook Friday to detail a happy encounter in the wild that happened earlier this year.

"In March, FWC personnel were notified of a 4-month-old leopard cat in Collier County who had been separated from its mother," the post read.

The cat was taken to the Naples Zoo for a health assessment, while FWC officials used a towel scented with cats' scent to mark tracks near where it had been in an effort to find the mother.

It took three attempts, but the officials were finally able to reunite the mother and the female, and the happy moment was captured by night vision cameras.

FWC said the couple continued to thrive and were seen on camera again several weeks after they met.

The FWC said the cat's elongated collar will be removed soon, after which biologists hope to continue monitoring its progress with tracking cameras.

Friday is also Endangered Species Day, and Florida cheetahs are federally listed as endangered.

According to the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Florida cheetahs are the last surviving cougar subspecies in the eastern United States.

Florida leopards are in grave danger; Thirteen of the state's 14 tiger deaths have been linked to vehicles in southwest Florida.
