Longhorns should avoid disappointment at home after heartbreaking loss to Alabama in Week 2
The Texans have every reason to be optimistic about their improvement under second year coach Steve Sarkissian after losing 20-19 to Alabama last weekend. This, of course, propelled Crimson Tide from #1 to #2 in the AP Top 25 rankings. But the 21-ranked Longhorns have some time to relax as they await their Week 3 game with UTSA, the favorites to win the USA Conference title on Saturday. The Roadrunners head to Austin, Texas and look more than ready for a tough challenge other than the Texas Conference in front of their home fans.
Teams often lose a game and jump into the top 25 in an Associated Press poll, but that's exactly what happened in Texas this week. Long Centuries Defense Contract - No. Alabama controls almost the entire game, and if it wasn't for a starting quarterback, Quinn Ewers injured and Hudson's spare card causing a long injury on his part, they could have made an amazing revolution. With the Ewers out for at least a few weeks, the status of the card is something to watch as kickoff against UTSA approaches.
In the first two games of the season, the road runner did nothing more than bring out the intense action. UTSA went into overtime with Houston and the Army with a loss for the former and a win for the latter. The Roadrunners can make things interesting in Austin this weekend.

Three players to watch
Hudson Card, Texas quarterback: The card replaced Ewers in the Texans' loss to Alabama, and he had to fight through an ankle injury. He played well enough to keep the Longhorns in competition, but he was clearly a handicap. Since the card performs well when it can be moved around, it will be interesting to see how well this pin can withstand what will be a tough test against UTSA. If the peg is still attached to the card, this game will probably be fun.
UTSA QB Frank Harris: Harris is the engine driving the Roadrunners' attack. In two games, Harris completed 68.2% of his passes for 696 yards, six touchdowns and only one interception. Harris also has the ability to impact with both legs and currently leads the UTSA with 93 yards. A double-threat caller like Harris could be a handful in the Texas defense even after an impressive performance against Crimson Tide.
DeMarvion Overshown, Texas LB: One of the players Texas will rely on to make sure Harris doesn't deal too much damage is an added bonus. He scored five tackles against Alabama and led the team with 13 overall. Five-year-old Overhown is the defensive leader for the Longhorns and will need to be around the field to slow the Roadrunners' attack, averaging 38 points per game early on.
It's a potential cheat for the Longhorns, but I think they've got the win. However, the state of the map makes me hesitant to consider Texas a favorite 12.5-point destination. Card is at his best when playing with both legs, and an ankle injury could limit this part of his game. Jeff Traylor's team also has a lot of motivation against the Big 12 organization. Prediction: UTSA +12.5
