The legendary 78-year-old took the stage during an already star-studded ensemble under the Brandi Carlyle & Friends label, which included Winona Judd and Holly Lassig of Lucius, Marcus Mumford of Mumford & Sons and Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, among others. .


Carlisle, 41, has been the hero of Mitchell's work, having honored several other artists at award ceremonies, including the Kennedy Center Honors Gala in 2021 and this year's MusiCares Gala.


After the MusiCares event, which also included performances by Beck, Saint Vincent, Mickey Guyton, John Legend, Cyndi Lauper and Sarah Bareilles, Mitchell said, "It was an exciting musical night for me as everyone on stage heard my music very well."


"I can retire now and let others do it," he said. Mitchell is believed to have retired since suffering a brain aneurysm in 2015, so the comment sparked speculation that he might consider acting again.


Mitchell's collection of 13 songs included "Big Yellow Taxi", "Summertime" and "Both Sides Now".

Mitchell last sang at the Newport Folk Festival in 1969. She last sang with a full ensemble in 2000, touring the United States on Both Sides Tour Now America's Tour, according to her website. He also chaired an instrumental concert for the Walden Woods Project at the Weltern Theater in Los Angeles in 2002.
