Ivana Trump, first wife of Donald Trump, dies at 73




The Trump family confirmed, in a statement, the death of Ivana Trump, the first wife of former President Donald Trump, at the age of 73.


In a statement posted to the Truth Social, Donald Trump described his first wife as a "wonderful, beautiful and amazing woman who lived an amazing and inspiring life."


Eric Trump, son of Ivana, remembered his mother in an Instagram post.



“Our mother was a wonderful woman: a commercial powerhouse, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty, and a loving mother and friend,” Trump wrote. "He fled communism and embraced this country. He taught his sons courage, perseverance, mercy and determination."


The New York Police Department said in a statement that police found Ivana Trump unconscious at the scene and that Emergency Medical Services declared her dead. There were no signs of tampering and the coroner would determine the cause of death.


Ivana Trump grew up in Gotwaldov, Czechoslovakia, south of Prague, according to a biography published on the website of talent agency CMG Worldwide. She moved to Canada in the 1970s and worked as a figure skating coach before starting her modeling career.


Marrying Donald Trump

In 1976, she met Donald Trump during a business trip to New York. The couple married in 1977, according to the autobiography.


Their first child, Donald Trump Jr., was born in the same year, followed by daughter Ivanka in 1981 and son Eric in 1984.


Ivana and Donald were often tabloid fodder and actively planted an aura of celebrity around their marriage.


Ivana Trump has served as Vice President of Interior Design at The Trump Organization. Her design work has included Trump Tower and she has also served as CEO of a few Trump Hotels.


The couple's failed marriage spilled onto the front pages of the tabloid and they eventually divorced in 1992.


Ivana Trump accused her husband of pulling her hair while being raped during their marriage, an incident described in the 1993 book Lost Tycoon: The Many Lives of Donald Trump, before retracting a statement before the book was printed. .


"On one occasion in 1989, Mr. Trump and I had an affair in which he behaved very differently towards me than he had during our marriage," she said. "As a woman, I felt violated because the love and tenderness they were showing me were absent. I called it 'rape', but I didn't want my words to be taken literally or criminally."

She sparked controversy after Trump was elected to the White House, calling herself the "first lady" in an interview with ABC News.


"I have a direct number at the White House, but I don't want to call him there because Melania is there and I don't want to cause jealousy because I'm basically Trump's first wife," she said. "I am the first lady."


Ivana Trump is survived by her three children, Donald, Ivanka and Eric, as well as several grandchildren.
