British Open Young people justify talking before the low-scoring event

Cameron Young may be justifying all the pre-event talk about records in St. Andrews.

The youngster fired a four-foot jump kick to No. 12 and made three shots at 7 below par. Not bad for your first round of golf competition.

The American missed the cut in five of his first six majors. In another match, this year's PGA Championship, he tied for the lead to finish 14th in the final round, but finished third.

With six holes remaining on his tour, Young could challenge the lowest 18-hole final point of a major tournament.

The record is held by Branden Grace with 62 at Royal Birkdale in 2017.

Rory McIlroy has finished third in a row from fifth and ranks second to fourth below.

Barclay Brown is a member of the same English golf club as Matt Fitzpatrick and appears to take inspiration from the recent US Open champion.

The 21-year-old led the club to the first round of Britain's premier championship after scoring for four points under 68 at St Andrews Stadium.

Brown is a member of the Hallamshire Golf Club in Sheffield, where Fitzpatrick is also affiliated. Fitzpatrick won his first major last month in Brooklyn.

Brown appeared on the local golf course in his colored hat, making a long jump from right to left to finish 17th in his last five starts.

An amateur, Paul Dunn, participated in a 54-hole lead at the last Open Championships in St Andrews in 2015.

Eric van Rooyen is another sanctuary in St Andrews.

The South African withdrew due to a back injury and was replaced by England's Aaron Ray.

Ray traveled to Scotland on Wednesday from his home in central England hoping to hit the golf course. He was promoted to alternate first place after Rikuya Hoshino replaced Justin Rose, who pulled out with a back injury before starting his tour.

Joohyung Kim is enjoying his British Open debut. Rory McIlroy also enjoyed his first hole in St Andrews.

Kim, a 20-year-old South Korean, stepped into the role at the age of four and was linked to Min Woo Lee of Australia and Cameron Young of the United States.

With her third-place finish at the Scottish Open last week, Kim confirmed her admiration for qualifying. He briefly shared the lead in the final round.

McIlroy, in search of his first title since 2014, was prominently displayed in his maroon and yellow uniform and began his career by digging up a 50-foot-plus shot of the bird.

Ian Poulter offers his usual dose of drama, and everything is going well at the British Open.

The brilliant Englishman began his journey by moving a few meters from the border exit. Then close the first nine by digging 50 yards to the opposite side of Eagle 2's ninth green.

That puts Poulter in third, making Brandon Wu a rookie.

Meanwhile, Justin Rose and Alex Noren will miss the British Open, but only one of them will play this week. Rose says he felt pain in his lower back after swinging with his driver in practice on Wednesday. He was at the shooting range Thursday morning, but decided he couldn't go.

Noreen was at St Andrews earlier in the week as a first substitute. He ended up going to California to play the PGA Tour event and lost his spot at St Andrews.

Justin Rose withdrew from the British Open due to a back injury.

He was replaced on the field by Rikuya Hoshino of Japan.

Rose, ranked 50th, appeared to have a problem with his back when he walked off the court on Wednesday due to his coaching career.

Rose finished in a tie in fourth place as an amateur at Royal Birkdale in 1998. The Englishman finished in the top ten at the Open Championship, in 2015 and 18.

The Silver Claret cistern was awarded for the first time in 150 years to a British Open Champion. She was there Thursday morning at the first podium in St Andrews where the oldest golf tournament began.

1999 World Open champion, Scotsman Paul Lowery, was chosen to take the first shot of the 150th edition of this historic week on the golf course. He used a yellow golf ball and found a wide fairway. The gutta-percha was the golf ball of choice in 1860 when the British Open began in Prestwick.

150 Open Championships have been canceled due to two world wars, a pandemic, and other events. The Open was not played in 1871 as young Tom Morris had won the previous year for the third time in a row. This means he won the belt championship. This is the original trophy of the British Open.

It was a crucial turning point in The Open. It was decided that the tournament would alternate between Prestwick, St Andrews and Musselberg. By the time it was created, it was too late to play in 1871. They also decided to buy a new cup: a Bordeaux jug.
