Tennessee Blue Alert Man wanted for shooting by Kentucky State Police

Authorities said Samuel Quinton Edwards, who was at the scene after a police officer was shot, was killed in a shootout with Kentucky State Police in Louisville.

Edwards, 34, was wanted after Tennessee officials accused him of shooting a Hendersonville police officer during a chase in Madison Monday night. The Nashville City Police Department reported that the officer sustained minor injuries.

MNPD reported that Edwards died shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say Edwards stopped the officer's truck and left a truck at Building 600 on Gibson Drive. He then fled on foot, armed with two pistols, according to the party.

Police believe Edwards then stole a white Chevrolet Silverado off Gibson Drive in 2009. Police say the keys remained inside the truck.

Officials widely shared details about Edwards and the truck, including the license plate number. TBI also issued a "blue alert" Tuesday morning as the manhunt continued for Edwards, saying he is wanted on charges of attempted murder and evasion of arrest.

The TBI alert was activated via Twitter and also sent messages to Tennessee Department of Transportation signs. The cell phone alert went off around 4 pm.

The Millersville Police Department said the truck was later found on Cycle Lane on Bethel Road on Tuesday morning.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation reported that shortly before 11 a.m. m, the southern lanes of Interstate 65 at Bethel Road in Robertson County were closed due to police activity. The station was close to where the truck was found.

A TDOT spokesperson confirmed that the shutdown relates to a "wanted suspect" in the area. The highway fully reopened later today.

Authorities said Edwards died after a shootout with Kentucky State Police soldiers on the Dixie Highway in Louisville. Multiple videos on social media showed a heavy police presence on the Dixie Highway and Ashby Lane after the shooting at the scene Tuesday night.

The agency confirmed that an investigation was underway after soldiers were involved in a shooting that killed one person, but did not reveal more details. KSP is investigating the shooting. The agency did not specify a timetable for publishing more details, but said it was "committed to transparency and ensuring the integrity of the investigation."

Files: Edwards shot an officer while in Sindh

Records showed Edwards faced more than a dozen charges in Putnam County after an earlier shooting on June 14, after he was released on bail. He and Erica Lin, 31, are accused in the shooting on Interstate 40 in Cookeville.

Tennessee Highway Patrol officials said they began investigating the crash after receiving calls from motorists that shots were fired from a blue Chevrolet Suburban at another vehicle heading west on I-40.

THP Trooper Doug Foster then began chasing State Route 70 West after the vehicle failed to stop during stationary observation near the 291-mile mark heading west on I-40.

THB said Edwards lost control of the car, crashed into a telephone pole and knocked Lane less than two miles away, for 70 riyals. He fled the scene on foot and was quickly captured.

Authorities found rifles and methamphetamine in his possession, leading to several criminal charges relating to firearms and drugs. Both are convicted criminals. Edwards and Lane were taken to a nearby hospital and treated for their injuries.

Edwards was released on $79,800 bail on June 21 and was due to appear in Putnam County General Court on July 20. THP investigators turned the case over to the FBI due to THP's criminal history.
