Bryce Harper is out indefinitely with a broken thumb

There are a few things that Velez can deal with due to injuries. When Jan Segura fell with a broken hand, they were lucky that Didi Gregorios was off the handicap, meaning Bryson Stott could slip and replace Nick Mattoon before the injury.

When Cory Nebel missed some games on the field, they were able to contact Francisco Morales to follow up on some games and show some solid stuff (don't ask what happened since).

Bryce Harper took a quick ball on his thumb last night.

Subsequent X-rays showed a fracture, which means it will remain indefinitely. Optimistic schedules might say something like 4-6 weeks, but we all know that probably isn't the case. Most of us are preparing for the worst.

It's hard to say how much damage this team will do. When Harper missed a few matches with a blister, he blocked the attack. Because of his constant presence on the team, he doesn't do well when he's away from them. With plenty of people anticipating those who didn't produce this season (Nick Castellanos, GT Realmoto, Alec Boom), Harper's Elite Products kept the team going.

Now gone.

We'll have more on this as it develops, but needless to say, things look bleak at the moment.
